FIDDLERONTHEROOFis progressing very nicely with racing and looks a good fit for the Sky Bet Supreme Novices’ Hurdle.

Colin Tizzard’s six-year-old had a similar profile in bumpers when trained in Ireland - placed on first two starts before winning next time - and is clearly a horse who learns on the job.

That bumper success came at the expense of a classy odds-on rival, The Big Getaway, who himself has taken high rank among novice hurdlers - Willie Mullins’s gelding is prominent in the Ballymore betting.

Runner-up to another leading Ballymore contender Thyme Hill (even shorter in the Albert Bartlett market) on his stable/hurdles debut over 2m3f at Chepstow, the selection has been confined to the Supreme trip of two miles subsequently.

He perhaps found Wincanton in a routine novice event on good ground too sharp next time, finishing a close second at odds-on, but has since justified short-priced favouritism with some authority on both starts at Sandown.

The most recent of those, in the Tolworth, underlined his class credentials for the Festival and he appeals as the type who will improve again in an even more competitive environment.

Tizzard has floated the idea of possibly switching to the Ballymore if the ground comes up on the quicker side, but Cheltenham’s policy these days is to start the meeting on good to soft or easier so he should get suitable conditions for the opener.

Furthermore, his pedigree (as well as his form to date) suggests a strongly-run two miles round here ought to suit - he’s Flat-bred on the dam’s side and full-brother to a mare whose three victories have all come at around this trip.
